4 Tips Toward Making Resolutions That Matter!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Turning the calendar over is an excuse to make personal resolutions for the coming year. It is also a way to bring about certain frustration for you if the goals that you set for yourself are unreachable, unattainable, or just something you have no interest in doing. Making resolutions can be done at any time of the year, but if you have been thinking about several new ones for the coming year, here are four tips to help you not only make resolutions, but to keep them.

1. I Resolve To… Okay, you have made your resolutions. Now, step back and take a look at each one. Are they resolutions you wanted to make or resolutions others have told you to make? Make certain that each resolution is something you definitely want to keep, not a half hearted attempt at reaching a goal that you really aren’t interested in reaching. If your resolution needs to be modified, do it at once.

2. My Goals Are… Are your resolutions reasonable or are they reaching well beyond what can normally be expected? Let’s say your goal is to lose 70 pounds in the coming year. While the weight loss resolution is admirable, do you have the time to exercise regularly? Change your eating habits? Change your lifestyle? Is the 70 pound weight loss goal too much, too soon? Would it be better for you to stretch the amount you want to lose beyond one calendar year? Consider your health: both physical and mental when evaluating your goals. Keep in mind how your resolution may impact friends and family members…you may be a “bear” to live with over the next twelve months!

3. I Have Fallen and I Cannot Get Up! Do you quit at the first sign of failure? If you splurge on food, do you consider your diet and resolution to be over? If so, why? Simply start again and continue. The road to any goal is paved with pitfalls and you are bound to backslide from time to time. Best advice: Find an accountability partner who knows [and understands] your resolution and can encourage you to keep it.

4. Reward Yourself. At the end of the year, reward yourself based on how well you kept your resolution. If you hit your weight loss goals, consider going on a cruise — don’t overeat! — as a reward for good behavior. If you miss your goals, keep the cruise idea open for when you do meet your goals. In other words, some resolutions are ongoing and shouldn’t be restricted by a 365 day calendar.

Remember this: resolutions are for your benefit, not your detriment. Your attitude toward a particular resolution will help you determine whether you should make that particular resolution or not. Any resolution made which doesn’t have your enthusiastic backing will certainly become a hindrance come February or March and forgotten altogether by April. Make resolutions that matter and be the better for it!

Read about F1 Go Karting

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

F1 motorsport is in actual fact the pinnacle of karting. It’s the professional arrangement of the sport in its entirety. F1 is global phenomenon, a media corporation that earns millions and millions of pounds each and every year from publicity, sponsorship, & broadcast revenue sources. Successful Formula 1 drivers with a millionaire life style race these remarkable cars that are supreme with hi-tech luxuries – everything from tough to generate lightweight frames that move the machine to tires with apparelled grooving style that supplies the speed on the race track. Find great offers on tennis equipment.

There is no other sport that best epitomizes the meaning “worldwide sport” like Formula One motor racing. Many countries serve as active contributors in developing the Formula One motor sport road show – Malaysia for example, is a hot spot for Formula One racing (Fernando Alonso, a Spanish-born Formula One driver under Team Renault very recently won a Formula 1race there) & Italy plays a fundamental function in designing and creating first class, top-of-the-line karts. Competition is usual in Formula 1 – adding an edge of joy with each zip of the curve and nitrous increase of the engine.

Formula 1 cars can be summed up in two words: technological marvels. These sleek, low riding gems travelling around laps at speeds getting near two-hundred & twenty miles per hour consist of nothing more than just a chassis, an engine, and four wheels. For starters, the engine is located behind the cockpit as opposed to regular motor cars. Keep up to date with Formula One with detailed guides on all the past and present F1 Racing Circuits.

Qualifying Your Prospect

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

How do you respond when an absolute stranger calls, at work or at home, and begins to ask questions? “Are you the person who…?” “What is your marketing strategy?” “Do you own or rent?” Even, “How are you today?”

Are you annoyed and put off by these questions? Do you respond, “I already have a vendor,” “I’m not interested,” “Send a brochure” or “What are you selling?” (These days my response is to tell these callers toorder Cold Calling College!)

This question-asking strategy does not work. It does not work to qualify your prospect, and it does not work to set your prospect at ease. If anything, this strategy puts you at a disadvantage and makes your prospect not want to speak with you!

Here is a better approach: Allow your prospect to “self-qualify”allow them to tell you that they are the decision-maker. This is how: Position yourself as the expert. Give your prospect a reason to want to speak with you, and set yourself up as the person with the credentials who has the right to ask questions.

Use your script. Introduce yourself, your company and your product or service. Tell your prospect something about the above in such as way as to “stand out from the crowd.” Talk about your experience in the industry or your company’s credentials. Explain what you do in a way that is different from everyone else in the entire world who is doing something similar.

Talk about your business and the unique benefits you offer. You can use phrases like “we specialize in…” or “our reputation is…” or “we are known for…” You can also name-drop credentials to help this “expert positioning.” Mention clients or customers in similar businesses as your prospect. This does two things: it lets your prospect know that you are familiar with their industry, and it also makes prospects feel safer if they have not heard of you before. If someone has referred you, mention her name.

Once you set yourself up as the expert, then you are in a position to ask some of your predetermined qualifying questions. Ask them. This way, you are likely to get answers! In the ensuing conversation, the prospect will more than likely tell you that he or she is the decision-maker. If they do not, you can ask, “How is this decision made?” “Who else is involved in this decision?” “How has this decision been made in the past?” “What is your decision-making process?”

If you approach qualifying your prospect in this manner, you are setting up a relationship of equals. You are someone with expert credentials, someone with whom your prospect would want to talk. Your prospect will respond in kind. It is a far easier and far more effective way of qualifying prospects.

Have patience

Friday, November 28th, 2008

We are so used to having the world at our fingertips through e-mail, text messaging, cell phones and PDA’s that the one thing that seems to be disappearing is patience.

When do you want it? “Yesterday” is usually the response.

Well I’m here to tell you that there are still areas that don’t work that way – and SEO is one of them.

When you first develop a web site, it takes time for search engines to find it. I’m not talking minutes or hours, I’m talking weeks and potentially even months. Sure, there are things that can be done to speed that up, but its still a long process.

When you improve your site through SEO, those changes don’t reflect very quickly. One of the most difficult things to do in SEO is to truly determine the success or failure of site changes. Your ranking may not change for weeks or even months depending upon timing and activities such as the Google Update.

When you are thinking about setting off on an SEO tune up for your site – bear that in mind. Expect results – yes, but don’t expect them tomorrow.

Eat Healthy Live Better

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The old saying “you are what you eat” rings true. If you eat in an unhealthy way without moderation your body will reflect your diet and it will spill over into your lifestyle. Food is a primary factor in our overall health.

The common food classes that put on weight are:

1. Fats and oils: The body needs these in moderation. Most of us eat foods that are too high in these substances.

2. Carbohydrates: this group of foods is necessary for the body but is commonly the cause of weight gain, as people eat an excess of these foods.

3. Sugar: The body does need saccharides but many people eat too much of these sugars, especially sucrose which leads to weight gain. Sugar is an oddly addictive food the more you eat the more you want to eat.

4. Empty calorie foods: termed as “junk foods”-they just have calories but little or no nutritional value. The 2 commonest forms of “junk food” are sodas and chips.

5. Any foods taken in excess: can lead to weight gain.

How can we eat better and why does it matter?

When you eat a healthy diet you will feel better and certainly look better. Here are a few tips to help you:

1.	Eat less-little and often is best
 2.	Resist temptation to snack in-between meals
 3.	Cut down but do not eliminate
 a.	Carbohydrates
 b.	Fats and oils
 c.	Sugars
 4.	The one saccharide you can avoid is sucrose

Dealing with cravings: This is a big problem that those trying to lose weight face. Here are some tips to help you:

1.	When you eat les you will naturally get hungry but there are a couple of ways to help you with this:
 a.	Drink more water-ice cold is most effective
 b.	Eat more fiber-this fills you up and allows your digestive system to work better.
 2.	Sugar withdrawal: you will experience cravings for sugar. You can counteract this by:
 a.	Using sugar substitutes
 b.	Gradually reducing sugar intake (namely sucrose)
 3.	Junk food and snacks: substitute for raw vegetable and high protein snacks

Fiber rich foods: These are an important part of a healthy diet. In the old days our foods were much richer in fiber and basic nutrients. However now due to several factors like refining and green harvests fiber and nutrition in our foods are considerably reduced. This means that we need to think more carefully about the foods we are consuming. Here are a few common foods that will increase fiber in your diet:

•	Whole grains:
o	Whole wheat bread instead of white bread.
o	Brown rice instead of white rice
o	Whole grain cereal (breakfast cereals)
 •	Fruits and vegetables: Preferably with skin if possible

Educate yourself about foods that are better for your health and eat better in moderation. You will not only lose weight you will be healthier and feel better. With your newfound health and wellbeing you will have more energy to enjoy your life to the fullest.

Invest in the Future for Your Son or Daughter, How to Invest the Two Hundred and Fifty Pounds

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Do you know what the Child Trust Fund is? a small amount appear to have heard of the fact that all new babies are given a free £250 voucher from the government to place in a Child Trust Fund. The child’s voucher may be invested in any one of three types of CTF account, Stakeholder – a shares-based account thatswitches into cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is a superb chance to save for the future needs of a youngster

Scottish Friendly is a licensed provider of the Child Trust Fund The State is keen for the public to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the kind of account that we offer. This means that:

Investments are placed into our Managed Growth Fund, which hopes to provide good growth potential

An investment is made in part in shares to get the benefit of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares can
fall as well as increase whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)

It comes with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of only 1.5 percent yearly

When a person reaches the age of 18 the child will get a lump sum, wholly free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under present legislation

It’s affordable – extra payments can be placed in the account from only £10

One of the great attractions of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone – parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends – may contribute to the Fund to a top limit of £1,200 per year to help increase the child’s Fund (once added, this money may not be withdrawn).

What this means is that our Stakeholder account provides a good balance between possible high returns and a reduced level of risk. There’s also the additional assurance that our account is in accordance with with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. Nonetheless this doesn’t mean that returns are guaranteed or that Stakeholder accounts are suitable for everyone. Remember that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is held) can fall as well as go up and would not be guaranteed.

Only children whose birthday is on or after 1st September 2002 are permitted to open a Child Trust Fund. If you have older kids born before the 1st of September 2002 who are not entitled you could think about saving for them with a Child Bond – it’s a tax-free savings plan which was created for long-term growth.

It is evident that saving for your daughter is a rewarding means of preparing for tomorrow.

Failure to Do This Simple Task Can Kill Your Online Business

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

When you talk to a seasoned webmaster, he/she will always
tell you to backup your website files since the server you
are hosted on will always let you down when least expect
it.

I remember it happened to me when my webhost went down for
about 4 hours at the same time I just launched a massive
(and costly) marketing campaign. It’s really frustrating
to see it happen when I need it to be up and running.

As a webhosting reseller, I experienced one time how my
server is advertised to be backed up daily but when the
server got fried by surging electric current by accident,
my hosting partner cannot recover even the backup harddisk!

Not only did I lose my websites hosted on that server, I
also lost my customers who hated me for what had happened.
It’s a nightmare you wouldn’t want to happen to you.

Today, many webmasters still disregard the value of
backups especially those who are just starting online.

They rely solely on their hosts to backup their websites
but little did they know that not many hosts are not
backing up databases but only the website files, scripts,
images and settings.

The MYSQL databases are not considered to be included in
their backup service. Yet this is an important component
of any website especially those used in business. Imagine
a forum getting back to square one, a mailing list that
has been wiped out or customers that cannot login because
the system cannot find their data. These are just few
examples of how you can lose your online business if you
forget the backup task.

Most hosting control panel programs like CPanel, which is
leading in the world today in terms of server dominance,
has a backup utility that you can use anytime. This is a
manual process where you have to login to Cpanel, click on
the backup page and the download link to the backup files.

This backup activity, although time consuming will ensure
that you have available website files to restore even when
a server problem gets worse thereby decreasing downtimes
and headaches on your part. Recreating website files and
databases from scratch takes much much longer.

Believe me I know. “Been there, done that.”

As a webmaster, you should at least backup your websites
once a week and for your MYSQL databases at least thrice a
week. You can also relate this backup procedure to the
frequency with which you update your websites and
databases..

For example, if you are changing your webpages daily or you
have dynamically generated pages, then you should backup
those changes daily. If you websites or databases change
less frequently, then you can backup less frequently. In
this case, weekly or monthly backups will do.

Backup procedures are not to be taken for granted. This
should become part of your regular activities as a
webmaster to make sure your site is safe and insured from
any eventualities. You should treat backing up files
seriously.

Believe me, you will be thankful you did this when the
times get rough.

If you care about your websites and all the things in it,
backup regularly and completely. It’s one webmaster task
you should never miss.

Goal Setting: No New Year’s Resolutions

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Did you know that most New Year’s Resolutions are forgotten by the end of January?

It’s true. Not only are most New Year’s Resolutions broken by the end of January, many are just plain forgotten as well.

So my suggestion this year is not to make any!

That’s right, no New Year’s Resolutions. Or if you just have to have one, make a resolution that you are not going to have any resolutions this year.

The genuine pursuit of real goals

Instead pick just one goal that you are willing to commit to achieving no matter what.

To accomplish this you really only need to do 3 things:

1. Put your goal in writing.

Here is how you need to think about it – if your goal is not in writing, then you do not have a goal.

When we keep a goal in our heads, the goal gets crowded out by all the other pieces of information running around in our heads.

Putting your goal in writing makes it real and much more likely to be accomplished. This is because you can now put your written goal somewhere that you will see it several times a day. This is a powerful reminder and keeps you on course.

2. Tell lots of people about your goal.

Tell others about your goal. Make sure you tell one or two people that will hold you accountable to your commitment.

We all need encouragement from time to time. This is because no matter how motivated we are, there are times when we need a good swift kick in the pants.

If you really want to hold you feet to the fire on this one, tell so many people about your goal that you will be embarrassed if you do not achieve it.

3. Give it all you got.

Very few people have had the privilege of giving all they have toward a goal. It is a great feeling.

Back in high school football, one of our mottos was to leave it all on the field. This means to give it all of you, to give it all you have got.

This led to some very exhausted guys after some games. It also left us very content, and with a work ethic that has stuck with me for 35 years.

Another way to look at it is this: simply commit to doing all the necessary things to achieve your goal.

Imagery Practice Can Change Your Life

Monday, November 24th, 2008

John was a police officer. He was on duty one evening when a car stopped outside the police station. An elderly man came out of the car and came over to him to request him for help. He wanted John to go over to the car and convince his son, who was a passenger, to take psychiatric help. A simple family matter, John thought, as he approached the car. As soon as he approached the car, the son opened the door of the car and came out. As John approached him, out of nowhere came a knife in his hand. The man lunged at John. Only for his police training, John could have died. He escaped with small injuries. The man was overpowered and taken to the psychiatric hospital under police escort. For John, life had changed. He started to have flashbacks of the incident. Two years later, he was still suffering with the images of the incident. Doctors said he had post-traumatic stress.

This is a negative example of imagery. But our mind appreciates the language of images and no other language. When we remember anything good or bad, the sounds, the smells, the colours, the feelings are remembered. As long as the image and the emotions remain in our memory, the incident remains alive in our mind and our body. If there are many incidents from our past that are negative in feeling, we tend to live in the present carrying their ‘emotional weight’ and their images. This is the major cause of most psychiatric conditions.

On the other hand, you can also use imagery to your advantage. If you want to achieve anything in life- and this means anything- you have to do very little work.

Just make an image in your mind having achieved what you want to achieve. It is important to consider that what you want to achieve has already been achieved. Then add on the feelings, the sounds, the colours, the smells to this image. How would you feel if you achieve what you want to achieve. Simply imagine whatever you want to achieve, every day. If you can visualise this achievement many times a day, it is all the more better. Trust and have faith in the visualisation. Be patient with this exercise. Sometimes one has to do this exercise for upto two years. Sooner or later, whatever you want to achieve will become reality.

Do this exercise, focussing on only one goal at a time.

This is one simple exercise that can change your life. The secret behind its success is that for Nature at large, what you imagine or visualise is reality for you. Nature tends to reinforce our imagination by creating reality out of our images. In order to trust the process, you need to experiment with it. You can change your life and take it into any direction you want.

Pradeep K Chadha is a psychiatrist who has been using imagery with his patients for the last decade. He is based in Dublin, Ireland. He is the author of- The Stress Barrier-Nature’s Way To Overcoming Stress, published by Blackhall Publishing, Dublin.

Planning To Succeed

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

To get what we want in life we need to have a plan. Goals are an important part of making plans and being successful. If we want to lose weight, we need to set goals and have a plan. If we want to be fit, we need to set goals and have a plan. If we want to have less stress, we need to set goals and have a plan. You’ve heard that saying? “She that fails to plan plans to fail.” So how can you plan to succeed? You need to start by setting goals following the S.M.A.R.T. formula.

Most people say things like, “I want to be thinner” or “I want to get fit” or “I want to be healthier, happier, less stressed etc.” These are not goals you can plan to achieve. They are wishes or desires. S.M.A.R.T goals are:

S       =   Specific
 M       =   Measurable
 A       =   Action Based
 R       =   Realistic
 T       =   Time Bound

Be specific about what thinner, fitter, healthier or less stressed means to you. Make your goal something you can measure. Being thinner means losing how much weight or being fitter means running how many kilometres? What does less stress involve for you?

Make sure you will get into action about your goal by basing it on a true desire. If you are not excited about your goal, find ways to make it more fun. If you’re trying to lose weight then save all the money you usually spend on chocolate and put it towards the reward of a holiday or new clothes.

Be realistic about your goal. Losing two or three kilos a week may be difficult and unhealthy, so plan to aim to lose a half a kilo or one kilo a week instead. If the goal is realistic you will stick to it.

Lastly make your goal time bound by giving it an end date. This gives your goal a sense of urgency and makes you get into action about it. Keep this date realistic.

This week look at your goals and make them S.M.A.R.T. “I will lose 20 kilos by January 28th 2006″ “I will be able to run 5 kilometres in 15 minutes by February 16th 2006″ Above all don’t fail to plan. Plan to succeed!
