Introduction to Omaha
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Omaha is a variation of the ever popular Texas Hold ‘Em online poker where the players get not two but four hole cards. Sounds nice right? Well, sort of, but the player only gets to use two to play with just like in traditional Hold ‘Em.
So you may be asking at this point, why even bring this up? Well after some break down of the odds in comparison to traditional Hold ‘Em, Omaha is the dream game for casinos with no rake limit.
With chances for 20 card straight draws possible, instead of the more conservative and limited odds for traditional Hold ‘Em, the game easily blurs the line between made hands.
As a result, you see many more poker players going all in many more times because of potentially action packed flops that don’t exist with just two hole cards.
And if you’re familiar with the psychology of gambling, high action games bring in big money high action players. And with them come the gurus, looking to capitalize on the mistakes these players make during the excitement.
While this may seem like non news to some, to the older generaton of poker online players, those who have mastered the game of hold ‘em, there usually comes a time that as a true gambler, you want to branch out and try different games.
As one of those gamblers (though I wouldn’t be audacious enough to claim mastery of Hold ‘Em), I feel it necessary to at least bring some attention to this radical game. Besides, sometimes we need to eat fish after two years of steak everyday.
